Partly printed DS, signed “Th: Jefferson” as president and “James Madison” as secretary of state, 12 x 14.5, three pages on two sheets of vellum, June 8, 1807. A patent issued to Simeon Glover and David Parmelee, “being for a machine for mortising.” The second page contains a detailed description of the patent signed by Glover and Parmelee; the document is also countersigned by C[aesar] A. Rodney (nephew of the same-named Signer) as attorney general. The embossed wafer-and-ribbon seal remains intact on the first page. In good to very good condition, with Jefferson’s signature light but legible, intersecting creases (light vertical crease to Jefferson’s last name; vertical crease to Madison’s last name), small holes (one to body of text on first page; most along fold on second page), soiling, staining, and wrinkling (light soiling to Jefferson’s last name), corner tear to first page, and irregular ink adhesion to text on final page.
