Description

British monarch (born 1566) who ruled as James VI of Scotland from 1567 and as King of Great Britain (the first ruler so designated) from 1603 until his death in 1625. During his reign as England’s first Stuart king, James authorized the well-known version of the Anglican Bible which came to bear his name and oversaw his country’s involvement in the Thirty Years’ War. He married the 14-year-old Anne of Denmark, daughter of Frederick II (the “Great”), in 1589. Scarce manuscript DS, signed “James R” and “Anna R,” one page on vellum 11.5 x 6.5, 1604. A document related to property in Scotland, mentioning the name of James Ogilvie of Balfour. In fair condition, with heavy intersecting creases (horizontal crease through James’s signature), soiling and staining (somewhat affecting legibility of text and James’s signature, which is nonetheless visible), and marginal hole (probably original to sheet). An historic and seldom-seen combination! Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
