American boxer (1866–1933) who was the first gloved heavyweight boxing champion of the world, from 1892 to 1897. Vintage glossy 8 x 10 photo, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “To My friend Bob Scheffing with best regards, Jim Corbett, Sept. 13/29.” The original recipient was possibly 16-year-old Robert Scheffing (1913–1985) who later became a professional baseball player (Chicago Cubs) and, variously, manager of the Cubs, Detroit Tigers, and New York Mets (general manager). A few very subtle surface marks and ink mark to bottom margin, otherwise very fine condition. A most striking and unusually well preserved example! Auction LOA Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
