Description

American composer and pianist (1898–1937) who was one of the first musicians to attain resounding international success in both the popular and “serious” spheres. While he occupies a secure place among the most gifted songwriters in the history of music, his output extended far beyond the Broadway stage to include concerti and other large-scale concert works, chamber and instrumental music, and the landmark opera Porgy and Bess. Printed broadside, 6 x 11, from a performance of the Seatle Symphony Orchestra’s 1936-1937 presentation of George Gershwin’s music, including Gershwin conducting portions of Porgie and Bess, signed across the top in fountain pen, “George Gershwin.” In very good condition, with several horizontal folds, some scattered light creasing and toning, and mild handling wear. R&R COA.
