Fabled American entrepreneur (1839–1937) who entered the oil industry at the age of 24 and worked ruthlessly to unify his business interests into the powerful Standard Oil Trust. TLS, one page, 5.75 x 7.75, personal letterhead, September 10, 1923. Rockefeller writes to Mrs. Theron McCampbell in Holmdel, New Jersey. In part: “Thank you for the second basket of apples just received, which you so kindly sent us. They are very much appreciated, but we feel embarrassed to receive so many. We are sincerely regretful to have you put to so much trouble. We wish you were here to get the beautiful view of the hills, far away, this lovely, clear morning....” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. In fine condition.
