Description

Very late for dinner?

Scottish-born scientist and inventor (1847–1922) who conceived the telephone, founded the Bell Telephone Company, and invented various devices for aiding the deaf. TLS, one page, 8.25 x 10.75, personal letterhead, May 5, 1914. Bell writes to D. G. Fairchild in Chevy Chase, Maryland. In full: “Many thanks for your card received today. I shall be very glad indeed to meet Dr. and Mrs. Galloway at your house on Wednesday evening at dinner.” After signing, Bell adds a typed postscript: “Your card is dated April 3rd. I hope this is a mistake and that I shall not be a month too late to meet Dr. Galloway!” In very good to fine condition, with intersecting folds (vertical fold to middle name), light toning, soiling, and offsetting of typed text, and a few wrinkles and tears.
