Taft makes a handwritten addition to a TLS from his secretary to Wendell Phillips Stafford of the Supreme Court of the District of Columbia. The secretarial letter reads, in part: “The President has requested me to thank you for the copy of your address before the New York County Lawyers Association….” Taft’s handwritten addition reads: “I have read your address with great enjoyment and intense approval.
