To a fleet-footed friend

American playwright, songwriter, and actor (1878–1942), widely regarded as the father of American musical comedy, who takes a place among the most beloved entertainers of his era. Among his scores of hits are such standards as “You’re a Grand Old Flag,” “Give My Regards to Broadway,” and “Over There.” Vintage sheet music for the song “What This Country Needs Is a Song,” featuring an image of Cohan on the cover, 9 x 12, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “To Georgie Tapps, and I hope you dance to it, George M.” Tapps (1911–1997) was a well known tap dancer who performed in, among other Broadway productions, Cohan’s I’d Rather Be Right. In very good condition, with edge tears (one near but not touching writing; larger tear at left edge), light creases, and scattered handling wear. R&R COA.
