Description

Hall of Fame baseball player (1887–1951), nicknamed “Cocky,” who served as general manager of the Red Sox from 1933 to 1951. Collins, a second baseman whose 3,315 hits placed him in the all-time top ten, ranked Number 24 in a 1999 Sporting News list of the 100 Greatest Players of All Time. TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, Boston American League Baseball Company with embossed Red Sox logo letterhead, July 28, 1933. Collins writes to Henry E. Worley of American Legion Junior Baseball. In part: “Thank you for letter addressed to President Yawkey … to attend National Baseball Day on August 24th at Springfield. The Boston Red Sox are heartily in accord with such a movement, and while it will not be possible for President Yawkey to attend, we hope that someone of our organization will be there….” Pinholes and mild toning to top margin, otherwise fine condition.
