Highly esteemed British admiral (1758–1805) best known for his participation in the Napoleonic Wars, during which, in the Battle of Trafalgar, he lost his life. Ink signature, “Horatio Nelson,” on an off-white 6.5 x 3.25 slip clipped from the conclusion of an LS. The “full” form and style of the signature date it to circa 1797–98, following the loss of Nelson’s right arm during a battle at Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which forced the use of his left hand in signing. Accompanied by an antique portrait engraving. Intersecting folds (one between first and last names) and mild soiling and staining, no faults materially affecting the signature, otherwise fine condition.
