DS, signed “Elvis A. Presley,” two pages both sides, 8 x 10, 1958. Elvis’s Organizational [Cl]othing and Equipment Record, bearing his misspelled name and serial number in the hand of an Army officer at the upper left: “PRESLEY, ALVIS. A/US 53310761.” Seven dated columns under “Issues” include the respective article and quantity issued to Presley. Among the items issued to Pvt. Presley on March 28, 1958, the day he reported to Fort Hood, were a lightweight poncho with hood, hood field jacket, waterproof clothing bag, three wool blankets, aluminum canteen, comb, fork, knife, spoon, pistol or revolver belt, steel helmet with a detachable strap, five tent pins, three single-section tent poles, tent with rope, folding cot, cotton mattress, pillow and case, two cotton sheets, tag bunk, and a first aid packet. On April 14 he was issued, among other items, a field jacket liner, inflatable sleeping pad, and suspenders. On April 17, he was issued three “pocket magazine[s], carbine 30 round,” one “carbine, US cal 30-M-1 ser #359113H,” and six “magazine[s], carbine M-1.” On July 23rd and 31st, he was issued a gas mask and a pair of goggles, respectively. All of the items were returned between June 20th and September 3. Elvis has signed at the bottom of each of the seven dated columns; each of the four dated “Turn-ins” columns is signed “Melvin E. Meister.” Elvis was never issued his authorized size 10 1³2 overshoes, athletic shoes, size 30 x 31 wool field trousers, or field shell trousers. Presley completed basic training at Fort Hood, Texas, before being posted to Friedberg, Germany with the Third Armored Division. Presley served with the division from October 1, 1958, until March 2, 1960; three days later, he was discharged from active duty with the rank of sergeant. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, torn punch holes to bottom of second page, some light creasing and wrinkling, a few small spots of paper loss along folds, and mounting remnants along one edge.
