“One more battle to fight for liberty”

Prominent and sometimes controversial American clergyman, orator, and abolitionist (1813–1887) who was the brother of Uncle Tom’s Cabin author Harriet Beecher Stowe. ALS, one faintly lined page both sides, 5 x 8, no date. Beecher writes to “My dear Brother” [probably Charles Beecher]. In part: “Thanks for your considerate and kind words touching Plymouth Church. After a life of nearly forty years advocacy of unwelcome causes, in the minority, I do not feel particularly alarmed to have one more battle to fight for liberty—but am glad of fraternal sympathy…. I presume you state in your discourse that Timothy was Bishop over the Greek Churches & it is only to Corinth & to Timothy that Paul preached injunctions….” In very good condition, with short separations along horizontal folds (lightly touching a few words), mild soiling and wrinkling (paperclip impression to one edge), and faint show-through of ink. R&R COA.
