“‘Taste of Honey’ is on the L.P.... and quite a few of our own compositions”: MCCARTNEY proudly previews the Beatles’ epochal debut album

TLS signed “Lots of love, Paul, XXXX,” one page, 7.75 x 6.75, no date [circa early 1963]. Paul writes to Liz. In full: “Thanks for your letter. Great to hear from you again. And how were your exam results??? I hope you passed everything with flying colours. (Fran too, as I wrote.) Well, ‘Taste of Honey’ is on the L.P., also ‘Chains,’ ‘Anna,’ and quite a few of our own compositions. (cough cough). Anyway, enough of this idle chatter, ’cos as you mention, we’re busy with touring and things, so Cheerio. Yes, I know my typing’s getting worse, but see if I care….” All of the songs McCartney mentioned were included on the Beatles’ debut album, Please Please Me, released on March 22, 1963. The album, which included such iconic originals as the title track, “Love Me Do,” and “I Saw Her Standing There,” was later singled out by Rolling Stone magazine as Number 39 on their list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The address that Paul includes in the header, 20 Forthlin Road in Allerton, Liverpool, was that of his childhood home. The home, one of the group’s rehearsal sites in their earliest days, is now a museum. Matted and framed with a photo to an overall size of 22.25 x 14.25. Intersecting folds (light vertical fold to “Paul”) and light scattered wrinkling, otherwise fine condition. An historic document of the most celebrated group in the history of rock and roll! COA Roger Epperson/REAL and R&R COA.
