TLS signed “G. S. Patton, Jr.,” one page, 8 x 10.5, January 23, 1943. Patton writes to Suzanne Miner, who had served as his housekeeper in Langres, France, during World War I. In full: “I was delighted to get your letter of November 22 which reached me just one month after you wrote it. Of course I remember you extremely well and also the many pleasant times we had together. How is your sister, Juliet, and your mother? I feel that perhaps she may have now passed on. I am sure that you will be happy to know that the French and ourselves are very intimate and on as good relations as we were at Langres in 1918, except that I have not met here any girls as charming as you and your sister. I am very glad that you like America and congratulate you most sincerely upon your perfect writing of English. I only wish that I could do half as well in French, but sad to say my French now is about the same as it was when we were together at Langres. I am sure that if you had not been such a clever girl you could not have understood me, particularly when I wrote.
