Description

Scottish-American actor (1887–1953), best remembered for his “slow burn” comic style in more than 30 Laurel & Hardy films. His catchphrase “D’oh!” has been confirmed as the direct inspiration for the similar utterance used by animated icon Homer Simpson. Scarce vintage glossy 8 x 10 photo of the actor smoking a cigarette with his foot up on a chair, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “To dear Helene with very best wishes from James Finlayson, 1927.” In fair to good condition, with marginal losses to two lower corners, marginal pinholes, creases, small edge tears, a few small stains and spots of skinning, slightly lighter ink flow to last name (which is fully legible), and scattered dings and surface marks. Many of the faults can be visually minimized with proper matting and framing. R&R COA.
