American statesman (1823–1885) who served as speaker of the house and as vice president under Grant. His political career was ultimately ruined by his involvement in the Credit Mobilier affair and other scandals. AQS on an off-white 6.75 x 8.25 page, signed “Schuyler Colfax, Chicago, Ill., Jan. 28, 1876.” In full: “‘Let us have faith that right makes might; and in that faith, let us, to the end, dare to do our duty.’ Lincoln’s Cooper Inst. speech, 1860.
