Description

DS, signed “Wm. H. Harrison, aide de camp”,” one page, 8 x 5.25, March 15, 1795. Receipt, written in another hand, reads, “The Quartermaster will issue Four Gills of extra whiskey for Sergt. Washburn.” Harrison, who was then serving as Anthony Wayne’s aide-de-camp, signed the Treaty of Greenville, ending the Northwest Indian War, on August 3. The provisions of the treaty, which involved ten Native American tribes, included the turning over of certain lands (large parts of Ohio and the site of present-day Chicago among them) to the United States and delineated an “official”—but often ignored—boundary between American and Indian holdings. In very good condition, with rough horizontal edges, light overall toning from previous display, and intersecting folds. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
