Description

Mentioning Chaim Weizmann and Felix Frankfurter

TLS in German, signed “A. Einstein,” one page, 8.75 x 11, personal Potsdam letterhead, June 1, 1931. Einstein writes to Herr Kohn. In part (translated): “Unfortunately I have unable to see you during my journey. My wife told me how unlucky you feel and that, to cap it all, you have lost your job. In confidence, I can reveal to you that Weizmann is retiring from the political arena and would like to become the academic head of the university. I believe that this would be a good thing, partly due to Weizmann’s capability, and partly because it will make it relatively easy to create the post of academic head…. I believe you should try to get a job as a teacher of political history at an American university…. I believe that your positive recommendations from England, together with my own recommendation could be useful to you. As long as you have somebody to get in contact with (Professor [Felix] Frankfurter at Columbia University or Solomon Flexner?)….” In very good condition, with intersecting folds (marginal edge separations), diagonal crease passing through one letter of last name, a few tears and some wrinkling, file holes to left edge and creasing to right edge (small piece missing from upper right corner). The signature is dark, clear, and otherwise unaffected. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
