A commission for Robert Menzies as captain “in our Nineteenth Regiment of Foor commanded by … George Beauclerk.” Menzies later rose to the rank of major in the 84th Foot and was put in charge of a battalion shipped to Boston to take part in the Revolutionary War. He was killed when American privateers took over the ship, and never set foot on American soil. The signature is dark and otherwise unaffected. R&R COA.
