Ben-Gurion archive from his final years of political service

Archive of 11 lightly-lined letters, including 10 ALSs signed, “D. Ben-Gurion,” of which seven are in English, including three in Hebrew, and one TLS signed “Paula Ben-Gurion,” in English. Paula, wife of David Ben-Gurion, writes a thank you letter to David Lederman, editor of the Australian Jewish Herald, in 1960. The next ten years, David Ben-Gurion pens eight letters to David Lederman, the last one welcoming the Lederman family on their relocation to Israel in 1970. In small part, “I am happy that you came with your family from Australia to our country to publish here the Israel Magazine newspaper, which is intended to explain to the Jews of the Diaspora what is happening in Israel, and the problems it is facing in keeping the peace, in bringing immigrants, in uniting the various communities…May you succeed in your new job…Sincerely, D. Ben-Gurion.” Also included are two letters in Hebrew from David Ben-Gurion to his nephew, Aryeh Ben-Gurion, both in 1971, after Ben-Gurion's retirement from political life. Like his uncle did at Sde Boker, Aryeh Ben-Gurion founded a kibbutz, Bet Hashita. From his kibbutz at Sde Boker, David Ben-Gurion handwrites to his nephew in March 1971, “You don't have to be so sorry that you couldn't come for the anniversary of Paula's death. There will be no shortage of opportunities to come to remember her, and afterwards, too, to remember me. How is the farm doing at Bet Hashita, and how many adult members does it have, and how many children per family? / Looking forward to seeing you, D. Ben-Gurion.” In July 1971, David Ben-Gurion pens another brief letter to his nephew, “If you would like to come to Sde Boker for the Sabbath (July 10), I would be happy to see you and to talk to you. / With love, D. Ben-Gurion.”  Two letters repaired with tape on reverse, light edge wear, toning, and file holes in margins, otherwise in overall very good condition. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
