Calixto Garcia (1839–1898) was a Cuban patriot and military officer who fought in the “Little War” (1879–80) and the War for Independence (1895–98); Maximo Gomez (1836–1905) was a major general in the Ten Years’ War (1868–78) and commander of the Cuban military in the War of Independence. Manuscript DS, signed “Calixto Garcia” and “M. Gomez,” one page, 8.5 x 12, November 9, 1896. A military appointment for Calixto Sanchez. In good condition, with soiling, spotting, and wrinkling, vertical fold to “Gomez,” light blot to “Calixto,” and a few small holes and edge tears to blank portions. The signatures are otherwise dark and clear. An uncommon combination. R&R COA.
