Description

Raising funds for his 25-year Harvard reunion: “A real coming together of the largest possible membership of the class”

TLS, one page, 8 x 10.5, Executive Mansion, Albany letterhead, February 12, 1929. FDR writes to Clifton H. Paige in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In part: “Jim Jackson writes me that the class of 1904 twenty-fifth reunion fund has only reaches [sic] in cash pledges and insurance about $154,000 and, as you know, $150,000 of this has to go to the University as our class gift…. The above subscriptions have come from only about forty per cent of the class, which means that more than half of the class has so far not contributed. My thought is that no matter what the size of the amount, you will want to give something toward this class fund, and furthermore that you will really make a personal effort to come to the reunion in June. It is going to make all the difference in the world if we can make this reunion a real coming together of the largest possible membership of the class….” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Mild scattered toning and a tiny spot or two, otherwise fine condition. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
