Original “Reportrait” of Wise by artist George Haessler, comprising a stippled-ink portrait with extensive handwritten contributions from Wise, on an off-white 13.75 x 16.75 sheet, in turn affixed to a slightly larger light blue sheet, and signed in red ink “Robert E. Wise, Sept 18, 1959.” Wise comments on directing, editing, Hollywood, horror films, and fans. In part, “Hollywood is not just in California any more. It’s wherever pictures need to be and are made…My last picture, for instance, ‘Odds Against Tomorrow’ starring Harry Belafonte, Robert Ryan, and Shelley Winters…made it entirely in New York City…Horror Films - I cut my teeth on them so I have a soft spot for horror films. But I could do with more legitimate ones and fewer ‘Teen-Age Werewolfs’ and other such current items.” The sheet is also signed by Haessler at lower right.
