Maine-born Union major general (1828–1914) who was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his defense of Little Round Top at Gettysburg. He later served as Governor of Maine and president of Bowdoin College. Bold ink signature and sentiment, “Your obdt. servt., J. L. Chamberlain, Brig. Genl.,” on a lightly lined off-white 3.75 x 1.5 slip affixed to a larger card. Matted and framed with a photo and engraved biographical plaque to an overall size of 14.5 x 25.5.
