It may be that I can make several talks to American audiences in the next months; I believe that in part, at least, they are re-broadcast to other countries….” Eisenhower was then at the U.S. Naval Base in Newport, Rhode Island, from where he was managing the notorious crisis that surrounded the integration of Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. On the following day, Eisenhower announced that the Governor of Arkansas, segregationist Orval Faubus, had withdrawn National Guard troops and that the situation had been brought under control, allowing the students to safely enter the school.
