American statesman (1793–1863) who served as the first President of Texas. Large ink signature, “Sam Houston,” on a irregular off-white approximately 4.75 x 2.5 slip with a sentiment in another hand, evidently clipped from a letter, affixed to a larger album page which bears several other signatures. In good condition, with small hole to blank portion, vertical crease through last name, trimming to bottom edge just touching final flourish, and scattered soiling and light staining. R&R COA.
