Taft, Atty. in fact”; 2) 1916 land deed, signed by Robert A. Taft (future senator and son of Wm. Howard Taft; 1889–1953); 3) 1889 lease, signed by Chas. P. Taft (future congressman and brother of Wm. H. Taft; 1843–1929); 4) 1854 ALS sending family news and mentioning a meeting with Governor Ransom of Michigan, signed by Alphonso Taft (U.S. lawyer, judge, diplomat and cabinet official, and father of Wm.
