He cut a sharp figure in the history of execution

French physician and politician (1738–1814) whose name became synonymous with the “humane” instrument of execution whose use he proposed to the government during the French Revolution. LS in French, signed “Guillotin,” one page both sides, 8 x 12, Agence du Domaine National letterhead, “13 Fructidor, an 2” [early 1790s]. An untranslated letter mentioning several official matters. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, light soiling and wrinkling, a few small tears and holes, and light show-through of ink. The signature is dark, distinct, and unaffected. R&R COA.
