Description

Renowned American Shakespearean actor (1833–1893) and brother of Lincoln assassin John Wilkes Booth. ALS, two pages, 4.25 x 6.75, December 8, 1888. Booth writes to Judge Daly. In part: “I have been prevented from paying my respects to Mrs. Daly & yourself by a ‘thousand & one’ impediments—chief amongst them my dentist who nearly every day the past four weeks has held me by the jaw from 12 till 3 o’clock…. Should you care to visit the play tonight I beg you will use the enclose [sic] tickets for a private box; should you feel otherwise inclined do not hesitate to dispose of them as you please….” Faint stain to first page, otherwise fine, clean condition.
