German field Marshall, nicknamed The Desert Fox for his tactical genius as Commander of the Afrika Korps. In 1944 he was implicated in a plot to assassinate Hitler; given the choice of suicide or trial, he took poison. DS, in German, signed in pencil “Rommel,” one page, 8.25 x 12, June 1939. Document signed by Rommel as head of the German Tank Academy, and mentioning Dr. Robert Ley at the top, boldly signed in pencil at the bottom by Rommel.
