Oliver Ellsworth (1745–1807) was third Chief Justice of the United States and delegate to the Constitutional Congress (1777–1784) who later submitted the amendments which became the Bill of Rights. As a member of the Committee of the Pay Table, Ellsworth was one of the five men who supervised Connecticut’s war expenditures. Jedediah Huntington (1743–1818) was a Revolutionary War general and, later, treasurer of Connecticut. Manuscript DS, signed twice by Oliver Ellsworth and once by Jedediah Huntington, one page both sides, 7.75 x 12.5, June 6, 1782. A legal document detailing several payments to be made to treasurer John Lawrence totaling £136.1.4. Huntington has signed diagonally “J. Huntington” across the lower portion of the text on the second page; Ellsworth has signed twice “Oliv. Ellsworth” in the blank portion below. In good to very good condition, with light soiling and staining (slightly touching one of Ellsworth’s signatures), a few small tears and holes, and somewhat indistinct contrast of Huntington’s signature against text.
