Description

Oliver Ellsworth (1745–1807) was third Chief Justice of the United States and delegate to the Constitutional Congress (1777–1784) who later submitted the amendments which became the Bill of Rights. As a member of the Committee of the Pay Table, Ellsworth was one of the five men who supervised Connecticut’s war expenditures. Jedediah Huntington (1743–1818) was a Revolutionary War general and, later, treasurer of Connecticut. Manuscript DS, signed twice by Oliver Ellsworth and once by Jedediah Huntington, one page both sides, 7.75 x 12.5, June 6, 1782. A legal document detailing several payments to be made to treasurer John Lawrence totaling £136.1.4. Huntington has signed diagonally “J. Huntington” across the lower portion of the text on the second page; Ellsworth has signed twice “Oliv. Ellsworth” in the blank portion below.
