Description

Thanking a friend three weeks before the Potsdam Declaration: “These assurances mean a great deal to me in these days of so many difficult tasks.”

Two items: TLS, as president, one page, White House letterhead, dated July 3, 1945. Short letter to Brown Harris, Judge of the Circuit Court of Kansas City, written just three weeks before the Potsdam Declaration. In part, “It is good of you to let me know of your approval and confidence. These assurances mean a great deal to me in these days of so many difficult tasks.” Truman also adds a brief handwritten postscript, “Sorry I didn’t get to talk to you while I was at house”; and a vintage matte finish 8 x 10 photo, signed and inscribed in ballpoint, “Kind regards to Mrs. Joyce Boyer, 9-22-66, Harry S. Truman.” Both are double matted together, to an overall size of 21 x 15. In fine condition, with staple holes to top left of letter, and signature and inscription on photo fairly light, but legible. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
