American writer (1842–1914?) best known for his vivid short stories (including the classic “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge”) and his satirical The Devil’s Dictionary. In 1913, while traveling with Pancho Villa’s troops during the Mexican Revolution, Bierce disappeared, his ultimate fate remaining a mystery to this day. ALS, one page, 4.75 x 7.75, February 3, 1900. Bierce writes from Washington to Moses P. Ferris, Esq. In part: “I enclose amount of enclosed bill, which please acknowledge….” In very good condition, with intersecting mailing folds (vertical fold to “m”; small edge separations), light soiling, and toning (mainly to edges and reverse).
