American composer and pianist (1898–1937) who was one of the first musicians to attain resounding international success in both the popular and “serious” spheres. While he occupies a secure place among the most gifted songwriters in the history of music, his output extended far beyond the Broadway stage to include concerti and other large-scale concert works, chamber and instrumental music, and the landmark opera Porgy and Bess. Bold ink signature, “Sincerely, George Gershwin,” on an off-white 3.5 x 2 slip, affixed to a larger peach card, which in turn is affixed to a 5.75 x 3.25 off-white card.
