Distinguished Japanese actor (1889–1973) best known for his Oscar-nominated portrayal of a prison-camp commander in the film Bridge on the River Kwai. Early matte-finish 7.5 x 9.5 photo of a younger Hayakawa, signed and inscribed in ink, “To Sam Behrendt with sincere regards, Sessue Hayakawa.” Light silvering to dark portions (mainly concentrated at perimeter), a few tiny bends and surface marks, and slightly indistinct contrast against background, otherwise fine condition.
