In full: “Yours of the 13th to ascertain whether I will be able to accept an invitation to be present in New York on the 22d of Feby. for the purpose of receiving the beautiful portrait painting of Gen. Scott is received. I know of no reason now why I should not be able to be there at the time specified and unless something unforeseen occurs will be….” In very good condition, with intersecting mailing folds (vertical fold touching one letter of last name), scattered foxing and toning (touching signature but not affecting legibility), light soiling, and a few pieces of tape to reverse.
