Granting a favor as president

Handwritten endorsement as president, signed “A. J.,” on the integral address leaf of a letter sent to him by William Hebb, 8 x 10, February 1835. Webb letter reads, in part: “May I take the liberty now of soliciting your patronage on this occation [sic] as the means of relieving us from the state of depression … from which I have so long & so often sought relief. My son who is the bearer of this is on his way to the Secretary & will take … any communication you may think proper to make….” Jackson writes: “Referred to the Secretary of the Navy that he may at once make the appointment of Mr. Hebb.” In very good condition, with Jackson’s endorsement written partly atop the address panel (not affecting legibility, vertical fold touching a few words of Jackson’s text, and mild handling wear with marginal seal tears.
