ROLL UP FOR THE “MYSTERY TOUR”: LENNON and HARRISON sign an invitation to a private screening for their 1967 film

Printed invitation/ticket for a “private colour screening” of Magic Mystery Tour, 4.5 x 3.75, signed in black ballpoint “John Lennon” and in blue ballpoint “George Harrison.” According to the standard 1987 reference Beatles Day by Day, the event included a party for the “area secretaries” of the Official Beatles’ Fan Club; in addition to Magical Mystery Tour, the concert film Beatles at Shea Stadium was also screened. The hour-long Magical Mystery film, which was almost universally reviled, made its “official” debut on BBC 1 on Boxing Day, December 26. Accompanied by several related items, including a TLS from NEMS Enterprises sending the invitation to Pat Manning; an official fan club memo announcing the screening and providing details; a travelling expenses claim form related to Manning’s attendance at the screening; a photo of Manning and another female posing with Lennon and Harrison at the screening; and a program from the Hanover Grand Theatre, the venue at which the screening was held. All of the items are matted and framed together to an overall size of 25 x 33. Four punch holes to top margin (one just touching tail of Harrison’s “n”), otherwise fine, clean condition. COA Roger Epperson/REAL and R&R COA.
