Description

Teacher and humanitarian (1821–1912) best known for organizing the relief organization the American Red Cross. ALS, three pages on two adjoining sheets, 5 x 6.5, March 24, 1905. Barton writes from Glen Echo to Mr. Wells. In part: “I wish you could have heard the little off-hand talk of M. Fulten when I tried in a few words to give him to understand the function and relation of the two societies. He spoke with the wisdom of a sage—he could see nothing but the union of the two—they seemed to him to both be the children of M. Hove[?], but Boston the elder, and should be the head, but in the spirit of love, and unity—He recommended a personal invitation to M. Hove to be an incorporater [sic] in your charter. But I am not to weary you with another long letter today….” In fine condition. R&R COA.
