Description

Allman was a founding member of the Allman Brother Band (1946–1971) and session musician regarded as one of the most masterful and influential guitarists in rock history. He was killed in a motorcycle accident at the age of twenty-four. Oakley was a bass player and another founding member of the band, In 1972, Oakley was involved in a motorcycle accident in Macon, Georgia with a bus, just three blocks from where Duane had his fatal accident the year before. Oakley said he was okay after the accident, declined medical treatment, and went back to The Big House. Just three hours later, he was taken to the hospital and died of a skull fracture. Two business checks drawn on the Allman Brothers Band general account, both 8.25 x 3: one filled out and signed by Duane Allman, payable to the Transcontinental Acceptance Corp, for $110.35, dated September 16, 1970; the other filled out and signed by Berry Oakley, “Raymond Berry Oakley,” payable to the Embassy Motor Lodge for $4.16, dated October 7, 1970.
