Van Buren searches for his friend: “I have not had reason to know whether you are in the land of the living or not.”

ALS signed “M. Van Buren,” one page, 7.75 x 10, December 15, 1845. Letter to Commodore J. B. Nicolson in New York. . The letter reads, “My Dear Commodore, What in the world has become of you. I wrote you a month or two ago and since that I have not had reason to know whether you are in the land of the living or not. Tell me all about your situation and prospects and when we may be blessed with the light of your . . . time.” In fine condition, with some scattered light spotting, intersecting folds and some mild toning.
