Description

When Teddy comes marching home: “I do not want to have anything dedicated to me until I come back”

TLS signed “T. Roosevelt,” one page, 7.5 x 10, May 24, 1898. Roosevelt, then training his “Rough Rider” troops for combat in the Spanish-American War, writes from “First Regt. U.S. Vol. Cavalry, in Camp near San Antonio” to Fred A. Grant in Brooklyn. In full: “Thank you very much for your courtesy, but while I appreciate the song, I am going to ask you not to dedicate it to me. I do not want to have anything dedicated to me until I come back. Then we can see whether it is worth while having done it. With many thanks….” Matted and framed with an engraved plaque and photo to an overall size of 29.75 x 25. Intersecting folds (vertical fold through one letter of last name) and a few wrinkles, otherwise fine condition. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA. Oversized.
