Description

OVERSEEING “OLD DOMINION”: Then-Governor JEFFERSON signs a 1780 Virginia land grant

Partly printed DS as Governor of Virginia, signed “Th: Jefferson,” one page, 8.5 x 13.25, September 1, 1780. A grant for a parcel of land in Bedford County issued to Joshua Agee. Records show that a Virginia man of the same name served in the Revolutionary War in Major Glenn’s Battalion of Colonel Morgan’s Regiment. The red wax seal remains mostly intact at lower left. In good condition. The document is lightly wrinkled, toned, and stained, has separated along its horizontal folds into three pieces, with several chips, holes, and losses affecting a few lines of text, and has been affixed to a black card support. Save for a very faint fold and wrinkle, the large, bold signature is otherwise unaffected, is surrounded by ample blank space, and itself easily rates as fine. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
