Description

Getting behind his former Supreme Commander in ’52: “Glad that the Eisenhower forces are getting the upper hand”

American admiral (1885–1966) who led the Allied naval forces in the Pacific in World War II. ALS signed “Chester,” one page both sides, 8 x 10.5, personal letterhead, July 10, 1952. Nimitz writes from Wellfleet, Massachusetts to Curt and Mary. In part: “You are a very exciting couple to know, what with your many surprises!… Our heartiest congratulations to you as grandparents—secondly—and again—congratulations on acquiring a daughter in law—and thirdly—on your decision to visit Europe this summer…. Give Margaret Truman [President Harry Truman’s daughter] our warmest regards and good wishes…. We expect … to drive back to California … and to spend a few days in Yellowstone Park…. We have been listening to the Republican Convention—and are glad that the Eisenhower forces are getting the upper hand. It seems to me that the Young Republicans are rebelling against the old time politicians and their bossy tactics. Perhaps the Democrats will do the same & nominate Kefauver—whom I admire….” Intersecting mailing folds (one touching signature) and mild wrinkling, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
