Description

Working from home: TR signs a scarce color postcard of his White House office

Terrific color 5.5 x 3.5 postcard photo of “The President’s Office, The White House, Washington, D.C.,” copyright 1904, boldly signed in fountain pen along the right edge “Theodore Roosevelt.” The image bears the ink-stamped date “Feb. 12 1909” twice, once with the handwritten annotation that it was the centenary of Lincoln’s birthday; a portrait of Lincoln is visible on the wall above the fireplace. Scholars of White House history will note that the room shown is TR’s “rectangular” office in the West Wing; the first Oval Office was constructed during the Taft administration, while the present, more familiar Oval Office was originally built for FDR. Notations as noted and the subtlest suggestion of edge wear, otherwise fine, bright condition. Unique and striking! In fine condition. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
