Description

THE MOUSE THAT ROARED: DISNEY signs a rare early photo of his most beloved and enduring creation

Stunning vintage glossy 8 x 10 photo of a smiling, waving Mickey Mouse in his most iconic incarnation, with white gloves, two-button shorts, and “puffy” shoes, boldly signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “To Mush, Walt Disney, May 14—36.” An ink notation on the reverse reads “Shubert—Thurs., ‘Idiot’s Delight,” evidently indicating that the signature was obtained at a performance of that play, which ran at New York’s Shubert Theatre from March–December 1936. Unobtrusive horizontal emulsion irregularity to top half-inch of photo (well away from image), a few dings to background, and scattered subtle surface marks, otherwise fine, clean, visually appealing condition. PSA/DNA Auction LOA and R&R COA.
