Ballet dancer, born in Kiev, Ukraine. Considered one of the greatest male dancers of the 20th-century. As the leading dancer in Diaghilev's Ballets Russes, taken to Paris in 1909, he became phenomenally successful, and in 1911 he appeared as Petrouchka in the first performance of Stravinsky's ballet. He married in 1913, and was interned in Hungary during the early part of WWI. He rejoined Diaghilev for a world tour, but retired in 1917 when he was diagnosed a paranoid schizophrenic. Rare vintage fountain pen signature, “W. Nijinsky,” on a light green 4 x 2.25 album page, dated 1914. Matted and framed with an artist’s portrait of Nijinsky, to an overall size of 9.25 x 12.5.
