Description

Supreme Court Justice—and a Jew—Felix Frankfurter vehemently repudiates anti-Semitism

Associate Justice of the U. S. Supreme Court from 1939 to 1962. TLS, two pages, 5 x 8, April 7, 1942. Frankfurter offers his advice. In part, “Of course you do not want to sail under false colors—no self respecting person can. The very essence of our national well being is a denial of anti-Semitism and makes its practice spiritual treason. You are therefore free to assume that people will not discriminate against you because you are Jewish.” In fine condition, with a filing notations to upper left corner. Frankfurter was born in Vienna, Austria. He emigrated with his family to the United States in 1894, and grew up in the Jewish ghetto of New York’s Lower East Side. An absolutely amazing letter from Justice Frankfurter, a Jew, discussing anti-Semitism in the national sense. R&R COA.
