Description

American military officer and U.S. Surgeon General (1817–1883) who attempted to save Abraham Lincoln and James Garfield after they were shot, and who was in attendance at Lincoln’s deathbed. ANS, one lightly lined page, 5 x 8, War Department, Surgeon General’s Office letterhead, January 2, 1873. In full: “Very respectfully yours, J. K. Barnes, Maj. Genl., U.S.A., Washington D.C.” A hint of mild soiling and faint marginal show-though from glue spots on reverse, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
