Description

Writing to an Army captain months before Pearl Harbor: “Wish I were there serving with you”

TLS, one page, 8 x 10.5, United States Senate letterhead, July 17, 1941. Truman writes to Captain Rufus Burrus at Fort Leonard Wood. In part: “I have been gone for the past two weeks trying to catch up on a little sleep and rest. I spent the whole time in the hospital at Hot Springs. I had expected to stop at Fort Leonard Wood and pay you a call but when the time was up in the hospital I had so much to do I had to come right back here. I am expecting to pay another visit to Missouri some time soon, and you can rest assured I will make it a point to see you. Wish I were there serving with you.” In fine condition. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
